In Douglas County, Georgia, a mother named Sherry Magby is facing serious child cruelty charges. The investigation into the death of her one-year-old son, Jacob Slanton, revealed disturbing living conditions.
Investigators found the home to be unsanitary and in disarray, with a strong, foul odor. Magby allegedly left her six children, including the infant, alone for extended periods, up to 12 hours per day.
She reportedly entrusted their care to her 10-year-old child. The young child allegedly told police that Jacob was not properly fed and had been left to consume ants and roaches.
During a court hearing, detectives testified that Magby claimed she was at work, but her employer confirmed she left at 6 p.m. Her boyfriend was allegedly her destination, not her children.
Magby's attorney cited financial hardship as a factor, but the judge denied bond, citing a serious likelihood of re-offending. She also faces a separate aggravated assault charge from 2023 and is now prohibited from contacting any of her children.
