Gaya Police Suspends 3 Officers Over Rape Complaint Handling

Summary

  • Three sub-inspectors in Gaya suspended for alleged lapses.
  • Minor accused a man of rape after going missing for a day.
  • Officers allegedly released accused after money changed hands.

In Gaya, three sub-inspector-rank police officers from the Panchanpur police station in Konch block have been suspended by Magadh range Inspector General (IG) of Police Vikas Vaibhav. This action follows an inquiry that found prima facie lapses in their handling of a rape complaint filed by a minor's mother on August 10.

The suspended officers include station house officer (SHO) Padmakar Upadhyay, acting SHO Nagina Uraon, and Santosh Kumar. They have been attached to the Police Lines in Gaya during their suspension period. The inquiry revealed that the minor had gone missing on August 6 and returned the following day, alleging rape by Neeraj Kumar.

According to the complaint, the accused was brought to the police station on August 8 but allegedly released the next day after financial transactions occurred. The victim's mother reported that neither an FIR was registered nor any legal action was taken against the accused.

IG Vaibhav stated that negligence, failure to follow due legal procedures, and delays in FIR registration will not be tolerated. Since assuming office on May 12 this year, Vaibhav has suspended at least eight police officers in Gaya and Jehanabad.
