Healthy Gallbladder Removed in Botched Surgery
22 Apr
Summary
- Healthy gallbladder was removed instead of treating a urinary tract stone.
- An inquiry confirmed the patient's gallbladder was normal.
- Hospital records were allegedly tampered with to show consent.

In Nuh, police have charged a private hospital operator and a surgeon for allegedly removing a 24-year-old patient's healthy gallbladder during a procedure intended to treat a urinary tract stone. The incident occurred on the night of September 10, 2025, at Al Salam Hospital.
The patient's father filed a complaint after suspecting that something was wrong when the surgery concluded quickly. A subsequent ultrasound confirmed the removal of his normal gallbladder, leading to severe post-operative complications for the patient, who has been bedridden for seven months.
A medical board's inquiry, concluding on February 5, 2026, found the gallbladder to be normal. The investigation also indicated that medical records were allegedly tampered with to show consent for the gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), when consent was only for the stone surgery.
Charges have been lodged under sections related to grievous hurt, criminal act, and criminal conspiracy. While the patient is now stable, the investigating officer confirmed that negligence was found and the case will proceed.
