A California resident has been arrested in Maryland for allegedly committing two rapes in Gaithersburg. The incidents reportedly took place on the evening of December 18, 2024. The alleged perpetrator, Mauricio Martinez-Garcia, was apprehended on December 5, 2025, following an investigation that utilized DNA evidence.
The victim reported that she was approached by an unknown man at a restaurant. While leaving after feeling unwell, she was involved in a car crash. Martinez-Garcia allegedly stopped to offer help, then against her will, transported her to an apartment where the first assault allegedly occurred. He then reportedly took her home and assaulted her a second time.
Martinez-Garcia, who has ties to Madera, California, faces multiple charges including first-degree rape and kidnapping. Authorities are investigating a potential connection to another sexual assault case in California and believe there may be additional victims. He is currently held in California awaiting extradition to Maryland.
