Funeral Pyre Discovery Leads to Murder Arrest
14 Feb
Summary
- Brother's suspicion at funeral pyre uncovered alleged murder.
- Daughter and son-in-law arrested for smothering victim.
- Financial gain of Rs 40 lakh is the suspected motive.

In Bengaluru, a brother's last look at his sister before her funeral pyre turned into a shocking revelation. He observed suspicious bloodstains on her face, which didn't align with the initial claim of a sudden heart attack. This discovery prompted him to alert the authorities.
His sister, B Pushpavati, aged 52, was allegedly smothered to death by her daughter and son-in-law. The Tumakuru district police arrested the couple on Friday, February 14, 2026, following a complaint filed by her brother, S Anil Kumar.
Investigators suspect the couple was motivated by Pushpavati's Rs 40 lakh, recently deposited in her bank account after selling a property. The autopsy report indicated Pushpavati was smothered while asleep between February 11 and 12, 2026. The accused have reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
