Fugitive Cop Nabbed After 3 Years on the Run

A suspended police constable, Ganesh Jagtap, was apprehended late on Sunday night in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, concluding a nearly three-year manhunt. Jagtap is wanted in connection with a cheating case registered three months prior with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police, with similar cases also filed at Kothrud and Chatushrungi stations.
According to officials, Jagtap allegedly borrowed Rs16 lakh from an individual in the Bharati Vidyapeeth area and failed to return the money. He reportedly told the lender that his police affiliation offered him protection from repercussions. Jagtap had previously been arrested by Wanowrie police for cheating and forgery but rejoined the state police service after securing bail.
The accused had been on the run, frequently changing his location. A dedicated police team successfully traced an active phone number to Kadapa, leading to his arrest by a team headed by senior inspector Rahul Khilare.
