Fugitive rapist killed in police gun battle

A notorious criminal, Satpal alias Sattu, aged 60 and originally from Chandigarh, died on Tuesday afternoon. His death occurred after he was injured in a gunbattle with police in Muzaffarnagar. Satpal had previously escaped from Jalandhar prison in February of this year.
He was a highly wanted individual with a history of nearly 30 criminal cases, including murder, robbery, rape, and extortion, across at least four states. A reward of Rs 25,000 was offered for his capture. Satpal had also served time in Muzaffarnagar jail approximately 11 years ago.
The recent encounter took place on Roorkee Road when a joint police team was tracking him for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping case registered earlier in June. During the operation, the kidnapped young woman was successfully rescued, and two police officers sustained injuries in the exchange of gunfire.
