Fugitive Held for Forcing Wife into Prostitution

In a significant breakthrough, Kalyanpur police apprehended a man on Tuesday who had been a fugitive for four years. The arrest took place in Thane's Mira Road area, Maharashtra, bringing an end to a relentless search. The accused was wanted in a case involving the coercion of his wife into prostitution.

The investigation began in 2022 following a complaint lodged by the victim. She detailed a harrowing experience of dowry harassment by her husband and his family. When their demands for more dowry were not met, she alleged severe assault and mental anguish.

According to the complaint, the husband attempted to force her into prostitution in Kolkata's Sonagachi red-light district. Resisting these attempts led to further abuse. Upon learning of the registered case, the accused fled and continuously changed his location to avoid capture.

Intensifying their efforts, the police had previously failed to locate him at various suspected hideouts. A reward of Rs 10,000 was subsequently announced, leading to the crucial information that facilitated his arrest in Maharashtra.
