A chilling murder case has emerged in Prayagraj, where a 21-year-old youth, Shivam Rai, was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his friend. The motive appears to be a shared romantic interest in a girl, leading Shivam to end his friend Sumit's life.
Shivam confessed to luring Sumit to the railway tracks near Phaphamau on July 23, where he fatally struck him with a hammer. To conceal the crime, Shivam poured petrol over the body and set it on fire.
Adding a layer of manipulation, Shivam used Sumit's mobile phone to send ransom messages to the victim's family, demanding Rs 50 lakh. He also used Sumit's UPI ID, managing to extort Rs 7,000 from them, while making it seem as if Sumit was being held captive.
