In Central Fresno, authorities have arrested Lemual Wheatley, 53, for the alleged murder of 72-year-old Leon Conway. The incident occurred on February 12th, when police responded to a welfare check at an apartment complex near First Street and Dayton Avenue. Neighbors had expressed concern after not seeing Conway for several days.
Upon forcing entry, officers discovered Conway deceased inside his residence. The investigation revealed that Conway and Wheatley were acquainted, and a physical altercation had taken place between them on January 31st. This confrontation allegedly resulted in Wheatley inflicting blunt force trauma on Conway, leading to his death.
Wheatley was initially located and arrested by Fresno police on Wednesday near Bardell and Kaviland avenues due to an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter. Subsequently, on Thursday, homicide detectives formally charged him with the murder of Leon Conway. The investigation into this case remains active, and the Fresno Police Department is seeking public assistance for any information.
