Thousands of individuals have been arrested for driving under the influence in Fresno County's major cities this year. As a result, law enforcement is emphasizing the importance of safety and responsibility during upcoming celebrations.
Fresno police are initiating a DUI saturation operation this holiday weekend, coinciding with Saturday's fireworks events. Sergeant Todd Turney indicated an increase in visible law enforcement presence, including bicycle and traffic safety officers, as well as motorcycles.
Similar DUI patrols will be conducted in Clovis, and law enforcement agencies throughout the Valley will be vigilant for impaired drivers. Signs of impaired driving include weaving, failing to maintain a lane, and improper speed adjustments. The Clovis Police Department recorded 202 DUI arrests between January and June, while Fresno documented 1,153 such arrests.
Beyond holiday festivities, the World Cup final on Sunday also presents a potential for gatherings, with an outdoor watch party planned for Mariposa Mall in Fresno. However, concerns about crowded environments and behavior led some residents, like Laura Rodriguez, to opt for safer, home-based viewing.
