In Worcester, Massachusetts, two individuals were attacked by a fox within a 24-hour period, prompting urgent rabies precautions. A 6-year-old girl suffered a bite to her leg while riding a bicycle in her backyard on Jones Street. Her screams alerted her brother, who managed to drive the animal away.
Around the corner on Granite Street, a grandmother was bitten on the foot by the same fox species as she went to investigate cries from her daughter and infant grandchildren. She managed to remove the animal by throwing it.
Both victims, the child and the grandmother, have since been treated with rabies vaccinations as a precautionary measure. Worcester Police confirmed the fox involved in the attacks was located and euthanized. It will be sent to the state for further testing. Residents are urged to be vigilant.
