On December 6, 2022, a local court in Ludhiana, India sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a 19-year-old waiter named Vicky. The incident occurred on December 3, 2022, when the victim had a dispute with his employer, Balwinder Singh, over ₹5,500 in unpaid wages.
Balwinder Singh and three of his associates, Vikas Kumar, Manjinder Singh, and Krishan Kumar, called Vicky to demand the money. An altercation ensued, and the group later attacked Vicky and his brother Vijay when they were out for a walk on December 5th. Vikas and Krishna held Vicky down while Mani Sandhu stabbed him. Even as Vicky lay bleeding, the assailants continued to beat him. Vijay tried to intervene but was also attacked.
The court found the prosecution's key witness, Vijay Singh, to be credible as he was present at the scene. It rejected the defense's claim that the accused were falsely implicated. The judge sentenced the four men to life imprisonment and imposed fines ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹45,000.
