Ex-K-pop Idol Ahreum Sentenced to 8 Months in Prison for Child Abuse

In a recent ruling, former K-pop idol Ahreum has been sentenced to 8 months in prison and a 2-year suspension for a child abuse and defamation case. The Suwon District Court Ansan Branch finalized the verdict on October 9, 2025, finding Ahreum guilty of the charges filed by her ex-husband.

Ahreum's mother was also implicated in the case and was found guilty of abducting a minor. She has been sentenced to 4 months in jail, along with a 1-year suspension. The court also ordered Ahreum to complete a child abuse prevention education program during her prison term.

The case dates back to last year when Ahreum had taken to social media to share allegations of child abuse and domestic violence against her ex-husband. However, the investigation later cleared him of the charges, prompting him to file a defamation lawsuit against Ahreum and her mother. The court ultimately ruled in favor of the ex-husband in both the child abuse and defamation cases.
