17 Jun
Summary
- Fonda Specialty Care fined $6,500 for failing to provide respiratory care.
- Licensed practical nurse Becky Manning pleaded guilty to misdemeanor neglect.
- Whistleblower's lawsuit was dismissed due to a confidentiality agreement.

Fonda Specialty Care received a $6,500 fine after state inspectors determined the facility failed to provide adequate respiratory care to a resident. The fine was reduced from an initial $10,000. Licensed practical nurse Becky Manning has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor wanton neglect in connection with the incident.
An alleged whistleblower, Tylene Schultz, who reported the circumstances surrounding a resident's death and claimed she was fired for speaking out, has now dropped her lawsuit against Fonda Specialty Care and its parent company, Care Initiatives. Her lawsuit claimed that a resident, Marvin Jacobs, died in February 2023 due to a nurse's failure to provide necessary suctioning.
Schultz's attorney stated the lawsuit was dismissed following a confidential settlement agreement between the parties. The case had been slated for trial in August 2026. Manning has also agreed to an indefinite suspension of her nursing license in Iowa.
