A Florida woman, Leigha Mumby, has been convicted of vehicular homicide and reckless driving with serious bodily injury. The verdict came after a two-day trial concerning the death of her 22-year-old boyfriend, Daniel Waterman.
Prosecutors detailed that on February 9, 2025, Mumby was traveling at 94 mph on Interstate 95 in Flagler County. An argument with Waterman preceded the incident, during which she allegedly swerved the vehicle off the highway, causing it to collide with several trees.
Waterman suffered a broken neck in the crash, resulting in paralysis from the neck down. He passed away eight months later, on October 8, 2025, due to pneumonia.
During the trial, it was revealed that Mumby had learned of her pregnancy with Waterman's child that morning and discovered he had been texting another woman. Her defense argued against the state's account, suggesting Mumby attempted to avoid the crash.
