A middle school teacher in Florida was arrested on Thursday, October 1, following an alleged incident on Tuesday, September 29. Fada Concepcion, a seventh-grade science teacher at Tuskawilla Middle School in Seminole County, faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage showing Concepcion, 52, allegedly grabbing a male student by the arm and pulling him approximately 20 feet from her classroom into a hallway. The student reported the incident to school officials, who then contacted law enforcement.
Concepcion, through her attorney, argued that the student was misbehaving and she was merely "escorting" him, not dragging him. Her attorney contended that child abuse requires more than just touching. Despite these arguments, a judge found probable cause for the case to proceed, reducing Concepcion's bond to $1,000 and barring her from contacting the student or returning to the school.
Seminole County Public Schools has placed Concepcion on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. A district spokesperson stated that all allegations concerning student safety are taken seriously and will be responded to promptly.
