AI Fuels False Arrest: Nurse Jailed Over Fake Texts
10 Jan
Summary
- Nurse Melissa Sims was jailed twice based on fabricated text messages.
- An ex-boyfriend allegedly used AI to create fake evidence against her.
- She lost her job, nursing license, and suffered financial loss.

An innocent Florida nurse, Melissa Sims, endured two harrowing jail experiences due to alleged AI-generated false evidence presented by her ex-boyfriend. Following a contentious breakup in November 2024, Sims reported her ex-boyfriend for alleged theft, only to be subsequently arrested herself on domestic violence charges. This initial arrest led to a night in jail and a restraining order.
Months later, Sims faced a second arrest for allegedly violating her bond, based on a text message prosecutors later conceded was unverified and unproven by cellphone records. This message, purportedly sent after a pickleball court encounter, falsely implicated Sims. She claims her ex-boyfriend even inflicted injuries on himself to support his false accusations.
As a consequence of these false accusations, Sims lost her part-time job, was unable to practice nursing, and was barred from her condo for 19 days, estimating financial losses exceeding $100,000. Although her charges were eventually dropped and she was acquitted in December 2025, Sims is now campaigning for "Melissa's Law" to prevent the misuse of AI evidence.
