An 81-year-old Florida man, Jose Lopez, has been charged with second-degree murder following an alleged shooting at his workplace. The incident occurred on the morning of October 14, 2026, at Metro Express, a company owned by the victim, 61-year-old Delio Trasobares. Lopez was reportedly reprimanded by Trasobares for sleeping on the job and instructed to leave the premises.
According to an arrest affidavit, after the confrontation, Lopez retrieved a .40-caliber firearm and allegedly shot Trasobares in the chest. Employees reported Lopez then uttered a Spanish expletive before the shooting. Trasobares attempted to walk away but collapsed. Lopez was found by responding officers riding a tricycle in the parking lot, where he spontaneously confessed.
Lopez was taken to the hospital for chest pains and later booked into jail after being denied bond. He reportedly told detectives he was tired of Trasobares "insulting him and complaining." Lopez is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
