A 21-year-old Florida resident, Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, was arrested for his alleged role in a scheme that infected thousands of Steam users with malware. The operation, which spanned from May 2024 to February 2025, utilized eight disguised games on the PC game store to distribute malicious software. These infected games compromised approximately 8,000 Steam users' computers.
Investigators revealed that the malware facilitated the theft of at least $220,000 in cryptocurrency by hijacking logins and targeting crypto wallets. Wilkins allegedly conspired with others, including a co-conspirator who created fake Steam accounts using stolen identities. Evidence, including Bitcoin transactions and a university email linked to Wilkins, led to his apprehension.
