Beard attempted to frame Burkett by planting drugs and a gun in her car in September 2020. The plan failed, and Burkett was subsequently murdered in October 2020. Beard was eventually sentenced to 43 years in federal prison.
Elkins, initially portraying herself as devastated by Burkett's death, was later revealed to have harbored intense jealousy. Investigators discovered her significant role through text messages and Beard's testimony.
In July 2023, Elkins was arrested and charged with conspiracy and stalking. After a trial, she was found guilty and sentenced to two life terms for her orchestration of the murder.
