- Evidence was found in the suspect's wallet and the vehicle's floorboard.

On Christmas Eve, Morgan County sheriff's deputies arrested a Tuscumbia man for drug trafficking after a traffic stop revealed fentanyl and kratom. James Trennon Hooper, 43, also faces charges for possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was held on an $11,300 bond with a hold from the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office.
The stop originated from a vehicle driven by a man with a suspended license. During the interaction, deputies learned Hooper had an active warrant and discovered drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered fentanyl in Hooper's wallet and additional fentanyl, kratom, and a pistol in the vehicle.
Hooper's driver claimed the trip to Birmingham was for Hooper to obtain fentanyl. Court records indicate Hooper's history includes a previous felony drug charge and a guilty plea for drug possession in 2022. Kratom has been banned in Alabama since 2016.
