A federal indictment unsealed on June 9 announced charges against Colton McCoy Tubbs, 35, of Oakman, for allegedly stealing 16 firearms from Mid City Pawn in Decatur on February 17. Prosecutors state Tubbs used a 2001 red Toyota Solara, reported stolen in Tennessee earlier that day, to crash through the store's front entrance.
The four-count indictment includes charges of theft of firearms, possession of stolen firearms, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. Tubbs is legally barred from owning firearms due to three prior felony convictions between 2022 and 2025.
Store management confirmed Tubbs made two trips inside, loading the stolen firearms before fleeing. Law enforcement spotted the stolen vehicle later that night and initiated a pursuit. Tubbs eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended by authorities. His arraignment is scheduled for June 18 in Huntsville federal court.
