Father Kills Daughter Over Marriage Choice

In Kalyan, the Bazarpeth police apprehended a 52-year-old man on Saturday, five days after he allegedly murdered his daughter. The accused, Vinod Vasaikar, is alleged to have killed his daughter, Gayatri Shinde, because she married a man against his explicit wishes.

The incident occurred on a Monday evening in the Parekarwadi area of Kalyan. Gayatri was discovered deceased inside her parental home, with police noting multiple severe injuries suggesting an attack with a sharp weapon.

Gayatri had married her chosen partner in November of the previous year, despite her father's strong objections. Vasaikar had reportedly made two prior attempts to arrange her marriage to other individuals, but Gayatri refused both proposals.

Family members eventually accepted the marriage, and Gayatri recently visited her parents' home for the first time after wedlock. Police believe the murder took place when Gayatri was alone at home, with her mother discovering the scene upon returning from work and immediately alerting authorities.

Suspicion quickly turned to Vasaikar, as CCTV footage purportedly showed him leaving for work, returning shortly, and then departing the premises in haste. He had been a fugitive since the incident. A police team tracked and arrested him on Saturday. Vasaikar, who works as a plumber and electrician, lived with his wife, son, and Gayatri, his elder daughter. The Bazarpeth police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation.
