The girls were found with their throats slit, reportedly by a sharp tool used for cutting grain. The tragedy occurred around 6 am while the victims' mother, Radha Devi, and their four-year-old son were present in the house. Devi stated that Yadav returned home intoxicated the previous night.
During police interrogation, Yadav claimed that a ghost possessed him, leading to the killings. He also suggested it was "God's plan" and that he had been possessed a year prior after eating meat. The mother also indicated that an extramarital relationship might be a possible motive for the murders.
