20 Mar
Summary
- Father murdered his son in a Sydney apartment bathroom.
- The motive stemmed from paranoia and unfounded fears.
- He received a 28-year sentence with a 15-month discount.

In May 2023, Nathan Vikatos took his three-year-old son Alexi's life in a Sydney apartment bathroom. The act was described by the NSW Supreme Court Justice Paul McGuire as a perverse and egregious breach of trust. Vikatos was influenced by drug abuse and paranoid delusions, believing his son would be better off dead.
Following his arrest, Vikatos told prison staff he killed his son in an attempted murder-suicide, wanting them to become ghosts. He expressed remorse with a guilty plea in November. Alexi's biological mother had died two years prior, and Vikatos had resumed drug use. Justice McGuire sentenced Vikatos to 28 years and six months, with a non-parole period of 18 years and six months.
