A tragic crash on July 7 in Casselberry resulted in the deaths of brothers Christopher and Tyler Marier. The incident occurred when Marquavious Wheaton, 26, allegedly fled from deputies during a traffic stop.
Investigators reported that Wheaton reached speeds of over 115 mph while evading law enforcement before crashing into the Marier brothers' SUV on U.S. Highway 17-92. Deputies had initiated a traffic stop, but due to safety concerns, they did not engage in a close pursuit, instead monitoring Wheaton's vehicle from the air.
Wheaton was initially charged with vehicular homicide and third-degree murder. However, the State Attorney's Office later elevated the charges to two counts of second-degree murder. Wheaton is currently held without bond and is scheduled for a court hearing on August 25. The investigation into the crash revealed extensive vehicle damage, complicating the initial response.
