Fatal Golf Cart Crash: DWI Trial Continues

Testimonies from a medical examiner, toxicologist, and an eyewitness are central to the ongoing trial of Austin Ray Harmon, who faces multiple charges including felony death by vehicle. Harmon is accused of causing a June 2022 collision that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two children. The medical examiner noted catastrophic blunt force trauma consistent with a car crash, while toxicology results showed Harmon had a blood alcohol content of .12%, as well as THC and tramadol in his system.

An eyewitness, Jeff Brooks, recounted driving behind Harmon's Honda Accord on the night of the crash. Brooks described observing the vehicle swerve dramatically to the left while negotiating a curve, comparing it to an "Oh, crap," swerve. He initially believed the car had struck debris, but soon realized a more tragic incident had occurred, prompting him to stop and assist.

Brooks' testimony detailed his efforts to aid victims, including finding a young girl struggling to breathe and a man without a pulse. Harmon was observed approaching Brooks afterward, holding a child, and repeatedly expressing distress. Harmon did not appear intoxicated to the eyewitness.
