Summary
- Driver was rushing to a beauty salon for a makeup sale.
- The crash resulted in the deaths of a couple and orphaned a child.
- Driver pleaded guilty to two counts of death by careless driving.

A woman's hurried trip to a beauty salon tragically resulted in the deaths of a couple and left their two-year-old son orphaned. Laila Barnard-Wigley, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of death by careless driving. She had been driving on a busy road in Bridlington when she crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle, causing a head-on collision.
The fatal crash claimed the lives of Dean Yarrow, 33, and Faye Wardle, 32. Their young child sustained serious injuries but survived the incident. The court heard that Barnard-Wigley was reportedly 'in a hurry' to reach the salon for a sales appointment, having attempted multiple overtakes shortly before the accident.
Barnard-Wigley's guilty plea came after an initial trial where a jury could not reach a verdict on more serious charges of causing death by dangerous driving. Sentencing is scheduled for January, with all options, including prison, to be considered. Police highlighted the devastating impact of such preventable collisions on families.
