Man Accused of Brutal Domestic Attack in Fargo

Authorities in Fargo, North Dakota, responded to a call reporting a domestic dispute that allegedly turned violent. Upon arrival, officers observed injuries on a woman, including circular cuts near her elbow and marks on her chest and neck. She reportedly told police that Michael David Schaffer became enraged after witnessing her speaking loudly with someone else.
Schaffer allegedly began destroying property before shoving the woman against a wall and choking her for approximately one minute. The woman claims that when she asked him to stop, Schaffer grabbed a pair of pliers and used them to stab her elbow. Schaffer reportedly left the residence but was apprehended by police upon his return.
He was arrested and taken to Cass County Jail, facing charges of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence/assault with serious bodily injury. Schaffer has denied the allegations, accusing the woman of being the aggressor. In North Dakota, aggravated assault can be a felony, carrying potential sentences of up to five years in prison and significant fines.
