A family's home was devastated by a firebombing attack due to a case of mistaken identity. Masked assailants targeted the wrong house in a gangland feud, causing a blaze that left the property severely damaged and uninhabitable. The Marsden family narrowly escaped the fire, which broke out just before 2 am on January 18, 2026.
Jody Lynam and an accomplice were caught on camera approaching the home, smashing a window, and pouring petrol inside before igniting it. Lynam, identified by DNA from a discarded balaclava, was acting on orders from a drug dealer to target a rival's property. He was sentenced to six years and nine months for arson.
The fire caused over £113,000 in damage. The victims, Stuart and Claire Marsden, described being traumatized and losing everything. The court heard that the incident could have resulted in multiple fatalities. Lynam, who has a history of 122 previous offenses, was reportedly pressured into the attack while struggling with drug addiction.
