A mother-of-five received a two-year prison sentence for fabricating a rape accusation against a compassionate motorist who offered her assistance. Rachael Jones, 38, had been found intoxicated and barefoot by Salim Ullah, 33, who was driving past.
Mr Ullah kindly gave Jones a ride home, but after she was safely dropped off, she falsely alleged she had been lured into a car and gang-raped by Mr Ullah and two other men. This fabricated story led to Mr Ullah's arrest and detention for 30 hours, causing significant distress to him and his pregnant wife.
Fortunately, Mr Ullah had the foresight to record his encounter with Jones on his mobile phone. This recording, presented to the police, exonerated him and proved Jones's deceit. Jones later admitted to perverting the course of justice, blaming her lies on intoxication.
