Bihar Brothers Pose as Sadhus, Steal Gold

Summary

  • Two brothers arrested for posing as sadhus.
  • Victim duped of gold mangalsutra and earrings.
  • Accused from Bihar, arrested near Balidih station.

Two brothers from Bihar, identified as Shambhu Lathaur and Gaya Lal Lathaur, have been arrested in Bokaro for allegedly duping a woman of her gold jewellery by posing as religious mendicants. The incident occurred on the morning of October 28 when the accused visited the home of Babita Devi in the Camp-2 area.

Claiming to be sadhus, the brothers offered to end the family's hardships by blessing their ornaments. Trusting their words, Babita Devi handed over a gold mangalsutra and a pair of gold earrings. The duo purportedly replaced the precious items with brass lockets, advising her to open the bundle only after 5 pm to avoid misfortune.

Upon discovering the deception later that day, the victim immediately filed a complaint at the City police station. A police team, led by DSP City Rajeev Ranjan, successfully traced and apprehended the suspects near Balidih railway station on Friday night. During questioning, the brothers confessed to their crime.
