Fake Nurse Jailed for 3+ Years
3 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Man jailed over three years for impersonating a registered nurse.
- He worked at six nursing homes in the northeast of England.
- The fraud was uncovered when the real nurse queried a hearing.

A man who falsely claimed to be a registered nurse has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for his crimes. Ashton Guramatunhu, 46, initially registered with a nursing agency in 2014 using the identity of a legitimate nurse. He subsequently worked in six different nursing homes across the northeast of England.
Investigators highlighted that Guramatunhu endangered patients solely for financial benefit. His scheme unraveled in 2019 when the actual nurse he impersonated contacted the relevant council about a professional hearing unrelated to him, triggering an investigation.
Guramatunhu admitted to fraud by false representation and was sentenced recently. Authorities expressed concern that he would have continued his fraudulent activities if he hadn't been apprehended.
