In Bihar, police have apprehended Manish Kumar Gupta, who allegedly operated under a fabricated identity as a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Gupta reportedly claimed to be a covert operative linked to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, using this guise to intimidate individuals and engage in financial fraud. Authorities estimate his illicit gains to be around Rs 100 crore.
Gupta allegedly utilized private luxury vehicles, fitted with unauthorized "IAS" and "Government of India" plates, to bolster his false persona. During a raid on his residence, police discovered two high-end SUVs equipped with these deceptive plates. A fake IAS identity card on his mobile phone and his assertions of working for the National Security Council Secretariat were also uncovered.
The search at Gupta's premises yielded significant recoveries, including 23 credit cards, eight debit cards, bank passbooks, cheque books, and five iPhones. Notably, 31 litres of foreign liquor were seized, which is particularly noteworthy given Bihar's strict prohibition laws. Additionally, two deer antlers were found, potentially leading to charges under the Wildlife Protection Act.
An FIR has been registered, and the Economic Offences Unit may join the investigation due to the scale of the alleged financial fraud and Gupta's purported national security connections. Authorities are meticulously examining seized electronic devices, financial records, and CCTV footage to unravel the extent of his operations and identify potential accomplices or victims.
