In a significant crackdown before Diwali, food authorities in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, seized around 90 kg of suspected adulterated desi ghee. The raid targeted Gopaldoot Dairy, located near the Jyoti intersection on Agra Road, following a tip-off regarding the alleged production and sale of spurious ghee.
Food Safety and Drug Administration officials conducted a surprise inspection, leading to the confiscation of the ghee. The dairy operator, identified as Jaiprakash, is accused of operating this adulteration scheme, reportedly increasing production to meet the festive demand for ghee, a key ingredient in many Indian sweets and dishes.
Collected samples of the seized ghee have been sealed and sent to an authorized laboratory for testing. The results of these tests will determine if the ghee is indeed adulterated. Authorities have stated that legal proceedings will commence against the operator under the Food Safety and Standards Act upon confirmation of adulteration.
This operation has raised concerns among other traders suspected of similar illicit activities in the region. The Food Department has vowed to continue inspections across the district to combat food adulteration during the busy festive period, ensuring consumers receive safe products.
