  • 24-year-old arrested for creating fake email IDs sold internationally.
  • Fake IDs used for bomb threats against schools and public figures.
  • Accused created five lakh email IDs since 2021, used crypto for payment.

Ankit Shankhwar, a 24-year-old resident of Kanpur's Ghatampur area, has been apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He is accused of generating fake email IDs and selling them to individuals in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other nations. These fraudulent email accounts were reportedly used to issue bomb threats targeting schools and significant locations in Noida, Delhi-NCR, Gurugram, and Mumbai.

During the investigation, authorities recovered a laptop containing approximately five lakh email IDs stored in Excel files. Evidence suggests these IDs were also utilized for threats against a singer's concert and a Bollywood actor's residence. Shankhwar allegedly created these IDs since 2021, employing Wi-Fi and proxy networks to mask his activities and selling them via Facebook groups.

The ATS revealed that Shankhwar's international contacts extended to individuals and groups in Turkey and Egypt. He received payments, including 6,000 USD Tether (USDT), from a Bangladeshi national named Alamin Islam for supplying the fake email IDs. The investigation was prompted by threatening emails received by schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Delhi, and Gurugram, purportedly linked to the Khalistan National Army and Babbar Khalsa.
