Summary
- A law student claims fake doctor advised stopping insulin.
- Patient hospitalized with diabetic ketoacidosis and dehydration.
- Social media personality charged with fraud and endangering life.
Cyberabad police have filed charges against social media personality Veeramachineni Ramakrishna, known as VRK, and "Dr" Koteshwara Rao in connection with an alleged fake doctor and fraud case. The accusations stem from a 30-year-old law student's experience after following VRK's health advice.
The complainant, a type-1 diabetes patient since 2018, stated he encountered VRK's videos promoting a diet to cure diabetes. He reportedly contacted VRK, visited their health center in Raidurg in September 2025, and was advised to discontinue insulin. He also paid approximately ₹26,000 for supplements and services without GST details.
Following the advice, the student was admitted to a hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis and severe dehydration, incurring medical expenses of ₹58,219. He questioned the qualifications of those providing advice, noting VRK's BCom degree and Koteshwara Rao's homeopathy background advising on allopathic treatment.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS for cheating and endangering human life, and also invoked sections of the National Medical Commission Act and the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. The complainant has also filed a case in the consumer court.
Separately, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) obtained a civil court order restraining VRK from disseminating unauthorized medical advice and derogatory content about allopathic doctors. HRDA has also petitioned social media platforms to remove VRK's content.
