Five known rowdy sheeters were apprehended by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for extorting a gym trainer. The suspects impersonated CCB police officers to threaten the trainer, Mithul Kumar, into paying them money.
On the evening of June 19, the group intercepted Kumar near City Institute and bundled him into their MUV, falsely claiming he was involved in drug peddling. They threatened him and demanded Rs 50,000 for his freedom. Kumar, who had Rs 40,000 in his account, transferred the amount to one of the accused.
Two days later, the fraudsters escalated their demands, seeking Rs 5 lakhs from the trainer. This prompted Kumar to contact the CCB, revealing that the individuals were not police officers but had a history of criminal activity. Following the trainer's complaint, a case was registered, and the five suspects were arrested.
