- Scammers targeted a woman by claiming a relative was jailed.

Suwanee authorities are actively searching for a suspect captured on doorbell camera accepting $25,000 from a woman. The victim was deceived into believing the man was a law enforcement officer involved in a fraudulent scheme. This incident is notable as it represents the first instance where police have encountered suspects appearing in person to collect funds in such a scam.
The elaborate fraud began when the perpetrators learned a relative of the victim was incarcerated. They then contacted her, impersonating officials from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. Using a spoofed phone number that displayed "Gwinnett County," they convinced the woman she needed to post bond for her relative via an app. Following initial payments, the suspects presented a fake warrant, claiming the victim had an outstanding warrant for jury duty.
Investigators are urging the public to assist in identifying the man seen on surveillance footage collecting the money. Police Captain Robert Thompson expressed concern that the suspects might target other individuals, highlighting the brazen nature of their actions. The Suwanee Police Department is distributing photos and asking anyone with information to contact Detective Dawn Zaenglein.
