18 Jul
Summary
- Accused posed as close aide to chief minister's office.
- Tricked officer into prioritizing an assault case.
- Arrested after police traced his mobile phones.

A man, identified as Asif Khan Ismail Khan, was arrested by the city police late on Friday for allegedly impersonating an official close to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). Khan is accused of misleading police officers, including assistant inspector Vivek Jadhav, by falsely claiming connections to senior government functionaries.
On July 8, Khan allegedly called Jadhav around 4 AM, identifying himself as a close associate of the chief minister. He directed Jadhav to urgently register a complaint for a man named "Pathan" who had been assaulted. Jadhav, treating the matter as high priority, proceeded to the police station.
Suspicion arose when the injured man later arrived at the station, asserting his own influential ties. Khan, who had left the station on a medical pretext and become unreachable, was eventually apprehended when his mobile phones were switched on, allowing police to trace him. Investigations are ongoing to determine if he used similar tactics in other instances.
