Facebook Settlement: Millions Get Surprise Second Payout!
9 Jun
Summary
- Millions of users are receiving a second Facebook settlement payment.
- The second payment is due to uncashed funds from the original settlement.
- Individual payments this time are expected to be around $6.

A second round of payments is now being distributed to millions of users as part of the $725 million class action settlement concerning Facebook's privacy practices. Approximately $100 million in settlement funds went uncashed from the initial payout, prompting a second distribution. These new payments began Tuesday and will be issued in batches over the next four weeks.
Eligibility for this bonus payment extends to over 15 million individuals who successfully cashed their initial settlement checks or redeemed their virtual debit cards last fall. Notifications are being sent via email by the "Facebook User Privacy Settlement Administrator" a few days prior to expected payment arrival.
Individual payment amounts are anticipated to be smaller than the first distribution, with the median expected to be around $6, compared to the previous median of $32.45. The settlement arose from accusations that Facebook violated user privacy by sharing data with third parties between 2007 and 2022. Minimum bonus payments will be $4.67 and maximums $7.32.
