Facebook Settlement: Second Payouts Now Arriving
10 Jun
Summary
- Second wave of Facebook settlement payments averaging $5-$7 is now being distributed.
- Only 19 million of 250 million eligible users filed claims for the settlement.
- Scammers are targeting users with fraudulent settlement assistance offers.

A second distribution of funds from a significant U.S. data privacy settlement involving Meta, formerly Facebook, is currently in progress. This follows an initial payout where eligible claimants received approximately $30. The current distribution is expected to provide an average of $5 to $7 per claimant due to remaining funds in the settlement pool.
The settlement, stemming from allegations of improper data access by third parties between May 2007 and December 2022, was declared final in May 2025. While an estimated 250 million U.S. Facebook users were potentially eligible, only about 19 million submitted claims before the August 25, 2023, deadline.
Payments began on June 9, 2026, and will be disbursed over roughly four weeks. Recipients do not need to take further action, as notifications will be sent via email. Settlement administrators are cautioning the public against fraudulent websites and messages impersonating the official claims process.
Authentic communications will not request personal identification like Social Security numbers or demand fees. Only users who successfully submitted claims and cashed their initial checks are eligible for this second payout. The window for submitting new claims closed nearly three years ago.
