A film financer from Pimpri, who gained notoriety as the "gold man" for his penchant for wearing at least 3kg of gold jewelry, has lodged a complaint with police. He claims to have received extortion calls from a man identifying himself as Shubham Lonkar, allegedly a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The initial call on January 25 instructed the financer to research the Bishnoi gang. Lonkar is a wanted figure in connection with the murder of former MLA Baba Siddique and was questioned regarding the firing incident at Salman Khan's Mumbai residence.

On January 26, the financer received a message from an international number demanding ₹5 crore. The message warned that payment was required within five days, or the financer would face a bullet, referencing the fatal shooting of former MLA Siddique. Following legal counsel, the financer reported the threats. The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch is now investigating the case under Sections 308 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Preliminary investigations indicate the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to make the calls and send messages, complicating the tracing of the perpetrator.
