Ex-NFL QB Sanchez Charged with Felony After Alleged Assault on Delivery Driver

In a shocking incident, former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been charged with a felony after allegedly assaulting a 69-year-old delivery driver in downtown Indianapolis. The alleged attack took place in the early hours of October 4, 2025, in an alley between two hotels.

According to court documents, the delivery driver claimed that Sanchez, who appeared intoxicated, approached him and accused him of being in an area where he was not supposed to be. The confrontation then turned violent, with the driver using pepper spray and a knife in self-defense. Sanchez sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, while the driver suffered a deep laceration across his cheek that pierced his tongue.

Sanchez was arrested at the hospital and later released on a $300 cash bond. One of the initial misdemeanor charges against him has since been upgraded to a level 5 felony, which could result in up to five years in prison if convicted.

In a statement, Sanchez's brother, Nick, expressed gratitude for the concern and support the family has received during this "deeply distressing time." He also noted that Sanchez remains under medical care as he focuses on his recovery while the legal process continues.

The incident has cast a shadow over Sanchez's post-football career, as he had been scheduled to appear as a Fox Sports analyst during a Sunday night NFL game. The 38-year-old former quarterback played for several teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Redskins, before retiring in 2019.
