Ex-Soldier Jailed for 5 Years After Stabbing Love Rival to Death

In a tragic incident, a former soldier named Kai Sainz-Stafford has been sentenced to 5 years and 2 months in prison for the manslaughter of Sam Siviter. The attack occurred on May 1, 2025, while Sainz-Stafford was out on bail for a separate stabbing incident from the previous September.

According to the court proceedings, Sainz-Stafford, 24, had been exchanging "flirty messages" with Siviter's ex-girlfriend, Hannah Cottrell, and had gone to her house late at night to meet her. When Siviter, 35, also arrived at the property, an altercation ensued, and Sainz-Stafford stabbed him three times - once in the leg, once in the knee, and fatally through the heart. Siviter died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Sainz-Stafford initially claimed self-defense, but later pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The judge emphasized the devastating impact of Siviter's death on his family, including his two young sons who must now grow up without a father.
