A former San Diego TV journalist, Ricardo Berron, is accused of perpetrating two shooting incidents on Palomar Mountain. The 46-year-old was arrested on March 10, facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors are also pursuing hate crime enhancements for the alleged attacks.
Authorities allege the shootings happened at the same scenic overlook but on different dates. The first incident occurred on October 6, 2025, when a victim reported being shot in the arm after being asked about his ethnicity by the suspect, who then allegedly fired a second shot hitting his vehicle's tire.
The second victim was approached on February 23 and also reportedly had his ethnicity questioned before a handgun was produced and a shot fired through his car window. A 9mm handgun, believed to be linked to at least one shooting, was found at Berron's home. He has since been released on bail.
