Summary
- Former sergeant accessed database for personal relationships.
- Women allege sexual assault, breach of trust, and privacy violations.
- Civil suits seek damages for alleged emotional and psychological harm.

Two women have filed civil lawsuits against former Regina police sergeant Robert Semenchuck, alleging he used an internal police database to acquire their contact details for personal and sexual gratification. Semenchuck previously pleaded guilty in November 2025 to criminal charges of breach of trust and unlawful use of a computer.
He received a conditional sentence of two years less a day served in the community, followed by three years of probation in February 2026. Semenchuck reportedly accessed the private information of 33 women between 2015 and 2023.
Bridgette Cyr and Kerry Benjoe are seeking damages for sexual assault, misfeasance in public office, breach of privacy, negligence, and breach of trust. They assert that consent was obtained through fraudulent misrepresentations about his identity and occupation.
Semenchuck denies the sexual assault allegations in his statements of defense, arguing that deception about his name or occupation does not legally invalidate consent. He admits to accessing the database for personal gain while employed by the Regina Police Service.
The women claim profound loss of trust, severe emotional distress, insomnia, panic episodes, and depression. Cyr relocated out of fear, while Benjoe experienced impacts on her work. They are also requesting punitive damages to deter similar actions by other officers.
Semenchuck argues his criminal punishment already serves this purpose and that the civil claims are subject to expired statutes of limitations. He seeks dismissal of the women's claims.
