Adongo, 36, had been held at Miami Correctional Facility prior to his removal. Over the past decade, he faced numerous arrests for offenses including felony intimidation and battery. He was convicted of criminal mischief in 2020, receiving a 364-day jail sentence.
Adongo was the first Kenyan to play in the NFL, having switched from rugby. He appeared in five games for the Colts between 2013 and 2015. His family has stated that he suffered from mental health issues, which they believe originated during his athletic career. In 2017, a judge found him incompetent following a psychiatric evaluation, leading to time spent in a psychiatric facility.
