Cop's "Love You" Call Before Murder Trial
19 Oct
Summary
- Accused asked about police response to gunshots days prior.
- He claimed "not everything in the news is true."
- Relationship issues cited as a motive by friend.
A former police officer is on trial for the alleged murders of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies. The accused, Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and aggravated break and enter. He was arrested on February 19, 2024, after the victims were found in Baird's Paddington home.
Testimony revealed Lamarre-Condon contacted a police officer friend, Dayna Schagen, about a month after his arrest. During the call, he stated, "I love you" and insisted, "not everything in the news is true. It will all come out in court." Schagen recounted that Lamarre-Condon had been seeing Baird, but the relationship ended, causing him distress.
Days before the alleged murders on February 14, 2024, Lamarre-Condon posed a hypothetical question to Schagen about police procedures for responding to reports of gunshots, particularly if misinterpreted as fireworks. Following news of the couple's disappearance, Schagen expressed concern to Lamarre-Condon via messages, but received no substantive response, leading her to suspect his involvement.
